Welcome to the official website of the Song of the Dragoons web serial! Here, you can find expanded lore about the world of Corh and its inhabitants, as well as extra insight into the story. I'm also working on a free tabletop RPG system framework for the setting, which will become available here once it is in a playable stage.

A Primer

For over a millennium, the Lundenian Empire was the supreme power on the northern continent of Esparc. The emperor reigned over a hundred million souls, paired with the state religion, the Luminary Church. Bloodcraft, the magic of blood used by alchemists, spellcasters, and summoners, was restricted to the elite of the aristocracy and the church. Most provinces of the empire were tightly controlled, with crimes against the state, the Church, or his majesty harshly punished.

Things changed with the Veskite rebellion. After General Veska val Hosk was martyred by the state on manufactured charges of treason, civil war upturned the empire. After years of fighting, the rebels were victorious, and the empire was dissolved into a loose confederation of the former provinces, today known as the Lundenian Confederation. Restrictions were loosened, and provinces were granted functional autonomy under the uniting Council of Lords.

The long-standing Esparchian tradition of knightly orders serving with bonded dragon companions, formerly monopolised by the brutish Imperial Order of Cuirassiers, has been upheld by the nascent Dragoon Corps, an organisation dedicated to protecting civilians from monsters, hostile spirits, brigands, tyrants, and other wrongdoers

Recently, however, a new threat has emerged, originating in the boreal province of Rimewater Vale. A plague-like "Scourge" that causes victims to transform into horrifying, bloodthirsty fiends. Theories about the origin of the Scourge have already been the subject of fiery debates; maybe it arises from corruption of the life energy, or perhaps it is the curse of some higher, eldritch being from the beyond of the cosmos. Whatever the cause, the effect is clear.

Fear grips the heart of the populace, as unrest and chaos give rise to heroes and villains alike. Courage is tested and loyalties are strained, all eyes turning to the dragoons in the hopes of returning peace to Esparc. For now, though, the fate of Lundenia teeters on the brink.
